Started putting goodies in the GT!

I am hoping for 500rwhp. Sounds like im back to square one tho. Chris (cobra20sc) has been trying to help me with the tune for the past few weeks and i am at a conclusion i have a mechanical issue now. I will do a compression test this weekend to see where im at but it looks like i will be tearing the heads off for some new gaskets... WTF! Back to square one with the build.... Time for a Heineken for sure! Cancel that, i have a 12 pack of Stella to dip into when i get home!
Latest and greatest! For the past two months or so i have been fighting an issue with idle. Come to find out it was a mechanical mistake by ME! When i set the timing on after i got the car back together, i did it wrong! I have a digital timing meeter that you can adjust manually on the gun what timing you want. For base timing you want 10deg. So on the gun i put the setting at 10 deg and i lined the timing mark up with the 10 deg mark on the dampner... :nono: When i put the gun on 10 deg i should have lined up the mark to ZERO on the dampner not the 10 mark like i had it. The car was running 20 deg BASE timing for the past 2 months.... I have spent hours and hours trying to figure this issue out with my idle... Good thing i looked at the operators manual for the timing gun.... WTF! Next time i buy something new i will fully read the instructions before operation... Why couldnt i just buy the cheap timing light... LOL
Any way, i took the drive last night to visit Chris (cobra20sc) for some WOT tuning! All i can say is HOLY S*&T! My car is a BEAST to say the least... Just ask Chris! LOL
Chris made my car come to life for sure! Chris is a great guy and i want to give him much props for his knowledge and time spent helping me. Dyno day is on me bro! On the way home when i pulled on the thru way i saw a GT500 behind me! I got to put the 92 to the test.... He was in front of me the first time and there was a Prius in front of him. The prius pulled off and a cloud of carbon came from his tail pipes. I was in 4th gear and i could have pushed his ass right off the road! I love this car! Im sure over 100 he would have got me but i would roast him like a chicken from a dead stop! LOL Cant wait for the dyno for fine fine tune and then the strip. Im hoping for 11's atleast. I think im there for sure! Happy Happy Happy! :dance::dance::dance:

Thanks for the props Gene. Definitely was challenging but you stuck with it and I'm glad to see it all come out well in the end. Maybe "well" is a bit of an understatement because I agree, the car is a beast. And don't forget there's more in it, especially up top. We'll wait for a dyno opportunity to fine tune. Send me the logs you took, the cal file, and the excel file I put on your desktop when you get a chance and I'll whip up some additional tunes for you to try.

We tuned in the idle air flow functions and the WOT fuel multipliers yesterday. For the past couple of months we've been tuning injector slopes, MAF functions over the phone/email, wanted to get that straightened first 
Worked well actually. We'll mess with the timing at the top end on a dyno or even at the track. We'll tweak the low end timing and Gene can use the butt-dyno to confirm. LOL.
Moates is definitely the way to go, loved being able to make online changes, Gene drives, I tune. Awesome.

Yes about 20% off. Given that the MAF was just calibrated, I chose to believe it and put errors on the slopes (or offsets). But in reality, I'm willing to bet that the calibrations on MAF are not all that accurate at low flows (or maybe even in general), especially considering this one is calibrated for 60 lb injectors. In the end, you have to pick something to believe in.

Yea an 89 GT I tuned had a meter cal'ed for 42lbers and was way off down low. Had he not already had it I'd have tossed it for something else. I think it was up to 15% off depending. The 90 GT with h/c/i had only 24lbers and was way off too a/f wise. I was a little surprised at that but I swapped on a 93 Cobra meter with a known transfer and it still needed work to the injector settings. I like the resolution down low better with the Cobra meter and left it on. Doesn't seem like any power loss at all either, probably more down low actually. Sometimes like you said you have to pick the lesser of the 2 evils and go with whatever seems to be more accurate.
I am wondering how off my 60lbers will be. I have a BA2400 meter though and they are usually pretty close to right on.

The injector slopes were the first thing we started messing with when the timing was off thinking this was the issue. I dont think the injector slopes were too far off on the base tune if not spot on. We left the slopes how Chris set them when the timing was off trying to diagnose my idle surge issue. Hopefully once i get my new TB and throttle cable linkage set up on the car we can put the sopes back at the recomended settings and retune from there. Im sure there is more potential in those injectors for sure. I have the slopes set for 50lb injectors not 60's. In the end i am very pleased with the tune that the car has now. I guess i will have to wait for the dyno to see what i put down. All in all i dont think i will be dissapointed! Thanx again Chris! Your the man!
P.S. I would take street tuning over dyno tuning any day! Its real life testing and it is fun as

I figured it had to be something other than the tune, really isn't a crazy setup and I just did a 427 stroker 94 GT not long ago and it runs great on the base tune. I have some odd settings for the 24lbers in the 90 GT I just did the other day but thats what works. I am going to do some more tuning on that Eaton M90 powered Ranger too, maybe get some pics of his setup and post up...kinda cool!
No 2 cars are always exactly the same. What TB are you getting? I actually only have a 65mm FRPP/Cobra one as I have had so-so results with other ones. Accufab or Ford seem to be the best from my experience.
Let me know how you make out on the dyno! I might get mine done but idk, probably just hit the track 1st since it is closer lol.

Not really sure about the tb choice yet. Probably leaning twards the the accufab 80mm with the small alum throttle cable mounting plate to delete the EGR plate. The less metal to hold the heat the better! Im not sure i want to swing the $350 for the set up right yet. LOL For the dyno im probably going to take the 4 hour ride to Performance Dyno. Pete has very good prices and i hear he is a quality guy. See what this thing will put down!

How much is dyno time at Performance Dyno? There is also a dyno or two in the capital district area not counting Redline who wouldn't give me the time of day. Whatever.

I hear ya. I dunno if i wanna put any more boost to this block for now unless i cool it down with a snow stage 2 kit... LOL It seems the 70mm i have now is kinda sticky. I wanted to upgrade the tb anyway for upcoming short block with ..... Don't get me wrong, i would love to not spend money on a TB but i think i really need it. Performance dyno doesnt list any dyno time on the site but Pete told me $200 - $250 for a dyno tune on my car. I would think pretty cheap. Lemme know when ya wanna drive there.
