C&L Intake with Custom Tune

Hey Everyone,

I have a quick question, I have been rattling my brain for days with this problem. I installed a C&L intake and a custom tune for 87 until all that gas runs out and then we will put the 93 in

However, my idle is being very erratic, I have replaced the TPS Sensor, replaced battery, and cleaned the TB. The idle at a stop or when in neutral is perfect - however when I push the clutch in and I am going 30 or 40 miles an hour the RPM Gauge goes down to about 300-400 and sits there bouncing until I come to a complete stop and then the idle starts to even out to normal.

Any ideas? I also replaced the grounding cable on the battery because it had an erratic idle when I had the heat and my HID Lights on and that fixed that problem.

American Muscle is the one who sent me to the two custom runes for 87 and 93, I have been in touch with them and they told me that the tunes are absolutely perfect and no issues are there. That's what they told me though -

I have a custom tune from them, and my car runs just fine....

Not sure what to tell you. Try putting the stock tune back in, and then re-install the custom tune. Not sure if that will help, but worth a try.

That stuff is a load of crap....

Get a better tune from Bama or Brenspeed.... I dont trust American Muscles tune... Most likely too concervative or just far below par... I get all my tunes from Bama and could not be any happier...
You may have to wait abit to get a tune from him though... His shop got hit with a couple bad storms and he lost internet and phone...

I am still waiting for the 87 gas to get a little lower, I am at 50 miles right now and then I am going to dump pure 93 gas into it and load up the 93 tune and see if it makes a difference - however, I may go with Bama to get a custom tune because American Muscle has been jerking me around and not calling me back at all, I always have to call the tuner guy there.

It seems to also happen when I first start the car up, I got a very rich smell and it almost dies out but then corrects itself and the smell goes away. Someone said it's the Throttle Body but considering I didn't have this problem previously I am not sure. I even replaced the battery, ground cable, and TPS sensor just in case.

Get a tune from bama I bet you it will go away.. sounds like a bad tune..

I had the same problem when I installed my JLT. Loaded the tune and fired it up. Idled real low, then rough then caputsky. I loaded the stock tune and fired it up and let it run for a few, then reloaded the JLT tune with my crappy flashpaq and it worked fine. I do keep the tuner in the car just incase it acts up, gotta get a real tuner soon.

Ok finally got the 93 tune in and filled up with all 93 gas - Check engine light came on about 1/2 hour into driving the car P0506 for Idle air control system rpm fault problem.

Any ideas? I have heard that you should not clean the throttle body because you can damage it - I have already replaced the TPS, Battery, Ground Cable, as mentioned before.

Do I have to re-calibrate the TPS sensor some how? I have heard that you should use a voltmeter but I am not sure if it applies to this year car... 2005

Why did you replace the TPS sensor? I thought your not supposed to touch that at all cost?

Most Mustangs need to have it replaced when they reach 75 - 80,000 miles on their car, I have heard this from several people and I believe there was a TSB out for it.

he has an 05. the tunes on s197s are much more finicky than with the previous years

I know of a few 6ers, and gt S197s that have their cars running on custom AM tunes, and run fine.

theres s197s that are running like crap on a couple of different tunes. 08calispecial was having a shitfit trying to figure out what was wrong with his car and it turned out to be a bad tune from bama

I dropped it off to Inline Performance, a mustang performance shop that is going to take a look at it - He said himself the S197's are very picky and sometimes the tune is just completely off from AM or a sensor is starting to go bad which when you put the tune in just makes it much worse.
