Dual Fan Question

Okay, Bill has a 91 mustang GT (Fox body style) with a supercharger. He needs better cooling. He's only got 24 x 20 with 2 1/2 inches of space. Considering using (2) 12 inch fans to get better output. We got one of those dual fan systems and the output just wasn't enough. Anyone try running two separate fans in their mustang? How did it go for you?

When considering fans. You have to look at the cfm's that they produce. Some dual 12" will blow the same or less as a single 16".

What are the cooling issues? What size t-stat, what temp are the fans turning on/off at, high/lo speed.
There are so many things to consider when cooling the ride.
On our 95 blown stang, with a single 16" with a dual speed system, and a 185 t stat the temps are never at a point of concern. I would look into the system as a whole.

the t stat is at 185. I am replacing the mechanical fan with electric due to cooling going to high when in traffic. I installed two 12 inch fans with a cfm of 1200 each. At idle in garage the car still got hot over 200 degrees with the fans on from start no control as a test. I wondering if the two fans would double the cfm to 2400? if so one fan with a higher cfm should bring it up to 3000cfm. Am I right or way off?

If 1 fan is 1200, then both on would be the high setting and produce 2400 cfm.

if temps are at 200, then I am guessing the t stat or the high fan is not working properly.

Thank you Greg. I will change the t stat. It has been there a few years. May be stuck or not open all way. Would be funny if that turns out to be the problem. Like a saying goes don't forget the simple fix. At 14 volts the fans should be going full speed.

changed T stat. to a new 180 top hose plenty hot. Air flow from fans plenty hot. Engine still getting plenty hot to 200 deg with the two fans running with 1200 cfm each. By the way car has 3 core radiator and edelbrock water pump. I am thinking the fans are just not strong enough. Any one have ideas this? Am I wrong?

after all that ....i would say check the timeing if its off a little it runs hot.....at least in my car ive noticed ..g/l..

what brand fans do you have? the mishimotos have been known to suck with any FI fox. also is the edelbrock pump mechanical or electrical? Check the fans with a voltmeter if you have one. If you haven't upgraded to a 3G alternator yet, I suggest you do that too. Even though its often not required for aftermarket electric fans, its one less thing to worry about and relatively cheap.

I have proform 67012 fan suppose to have cfm 1200 each. Voltage was 14.2 to 13.8 according to volt meter. The alternator is a refurb 1994 mustang alternator for higher output. Connectors and bracket changed to make fit. I am wondering if it is suppose to be two fans with 1200 would produce 2400 cfm.

im starting to get stumped by this one lol, i doubt its the radiator, and if you have a mechanical pump than i doubt thats the problem too. How much boost are you running?

They are blowing into the engine. I checked before install. Yes it is a machanical pump. The boost I think is 12 going into an intercooler. Allowing 9 into the engine.

I am wondering if the fans just can not put out the real cfm that is needed. Since what I see as suppose to be 2800 cfm.

the stock temp gauge is as accurate as a dollar store pregnancy test... Do you have an aftermarket one?

proform has a decent reputation, they're ehh okay.. I think your better off just getting a mark viii fan and have piece of mind

Yes that is what I have been doing by. It actully says the number. I also have compared that to a good quality temp gauge that you point at temp sensor.

Hav you pulled the upper rad hose to make sure you have coolant flow? Ive had that happen...broke the impeller and car started overheating????

i changed the t stat and felt the heat on the entire top hose as pressure went up.

also when the car is running on highway it stays cool. Its just when it comes to a stop that it starts to over heat.
