So my intentions are to create a 302 to withstand up to 30psi from a holset hx35 and eventually nitrous shots. I'd like to run low 12's when all is said and done. I've got a 302 block that runs and burns a little oil around 4k rpms that i obviously have to rebuild, buy new pistons, manifolds, probably a rear end with 3.73's/4.10's due to my mustang being a 4 cylinder at the moment.. and supposedly a b303 cam is better to support boost within an engine? I'd like to run an x303 cam though but know little about everything else. For example, should i increase the displacement in order to put steel sleeves in the cylinders? I don't want it to explode within the first year lol.I'm open to everyones opinions and combos to make a fast and reliable turbo+nos 5.0L . Thank you.

To make that motor deal with 30psi, and to have the fuel to make that 30psi would put you well beyond the 12's. I would guess more like high 10's or very low 11's.

-turbo too small for a 302
-turbo nor nitrous are needed to run 12's. A naturally aspirated 302, with good heads, cam and intake + traction mods and decent driver will get you to that goal.
-Why do you say 30psi? PSI is a measure of restriction, not power.
-reliable, turbo, nitrous should not be used in the same sentence unless you have a BIG budget
-in conclusion keep it simple; rebuild your 302 bottom end to stock specs (or even stroke if you want) and add a good set of heads cam and intake, and nice Auto transmission and be done with it. Then when you get tired of running 12's add the nitrous or turbo

I'll be honest; this build i was expecting to last a very long time . I'm guessing i'll put around 6-8grand in the motor alone. Hopefully after all that it should be able to withstand the turbo+nos, i know i could probably get 12's out of a n/a motor. But i'm thinking about making sure i'll have room to build after the motor, and the turbo+nos would help me get there, as long as my wallet doesn't become a black hole. :smash:

buddy no offense. you need to read more and alittle advice your wallet wont be the black hole, the car will. if your worried about it sucking up all your money.... your in the wrong hobby.

I'm sure Dom Torretto can help you out and get you a sick build!! Anyhow, as I said before, just do the h/c/i, some suspension, and slicks and see how you like it. You don't need a turbo to go fast. It's not my money though, so do what you want.

I meant that i didn't want my wallet to be empty lol, all the money i get (which isn't much sad to say), is going into the car so my wallet is literally empty all the time. What im probably going to do is just the hci setup so i can drop it in the car over winter, but if i do end up turboing it and what not i don't want to have to rebuild the engine again. Just looking ahead toward the future wouldn't i want to replace the pistons and probably put sleeves in the cylinders just to make sure i don't explode my block into bits lol. I'm obviously very ignorant to everything i'll have to do to my engine to get it to where i want it to be, but it'll get there eventually. All i know now is; x303 cam. :smash:

Stock compression in a stock 5.0 is somewhat boost friendly so just rebuild to stock specs and enjoy the car!
If you wish to go big, then buy an aftermarket block/ internals and build it on the side.

No offense OP, but how long have you been into the car scene? Im just wondering, b/c EFI Renegade cars are running well into the 8's with less boost lol(Obviously a bit more than what youre looking to do Im assuming). There is no way a factory block will handle anywhere near 30psi before splitting the block in 1/2. You could however run a turbo kit on a stock block car(10-12psi), and run great times so long as its tuned right and your parts work in harmony. Theres also really no need for N20 unless youre running a tubro that is too large and want to help with spool, but, you could run a small shot(30-50) because nitrous has great cooling properties. Look at MM&FF's turbo foxbody build up, they ran into the 10's with a stock bottom end if I remember right.

Your talking about V8's now, that HOLSET HX35 is good for the 4 banger, You would need 2 for a V8 and you wont be seeing 30psi especially on a stock block. a GT45r and an aftermarket block and build is what you need for 30psi. $$$$$$ and that's outlaw 10.5 territory your talking about.

AGREEDD AGAIN!!! Do more reading, know what you want, a stock 302 with a good set of heads and a powermaster t70 turbo on 5-8lbs will be good on your wallet and give you pretty good numbers with a good tune and supporting mods.

stock 4 cyl mustang and a pipe dream and works minimum wage... :smash: im guessing your 16-17ish... Get a good plan together, read up, save your money. Nothing happens overnight. Work HARD!!! Hard work pays off.

Yeah lol ... So i literally have to work for 1 whole year about 30 hours a week to pay off insurance+gas and after that i'll have close to $5,000... I'll get there, just takes a certain amount of trial and error.

We all started somewhere dude. You just gotta take it in steps, do bolt ons, maybe heads/cam etc. Its not like those parts cant be put on a stroker shortblock down the line. I remember being back in HS with my 94 and wanting to have it run 9's when I was 16 lol. But realistically, I worked part time back then, saved all the cash I could, and bought a set of used performer heads and a E303 cam. Too many people get asshole deep into things only to have a car they cant enjoy for years on end b/c the scope exceeds their budget and mechanical abilities. Just a little friendly advice.

When i bought the car i was pretty much expecting to buy a body to install a 302 in, but now that i got the 4 banger to run i just decided to put it on the road to play around with... sad to say every dollar i get truely goes into gas,insurance, and cars lol.
