exhaust popping noise

Hi I just got my mustang back from the shop, I had a rebuilt jasper motor put in. I notice when I'm slowing down in 2nd gear, theres a loud popping noise coming from my exhaust but it sounds pretty cool, I have mac shortys, bbk o/r h pipe, and flowmaster catback, is this normal?? I'm not too familiar I'm only 17 lol

It's normal, timing has nothing to do with the exhaust backfiring and loading up when downshifting and putting a load on the motor as it raises RPMs and trying to bring down the momentum of the car. It's like a jakebrake on a tractor trailer.

it is normal then ? cause it has no cats although sometimes timinh when it is off will make the car backfire i had it happen

What are you talking about?! What you don't downshift to slow down? It back firing has nothing to do with the timing, a car with any exhaust will backfire because of the raw gas fumes passing right through. last time I checked downshifting slows you down...

thats what i said i said the down shifting is what is slowing you down who doest think that i think u misunderstood lol or maybe i did i thought he meant that the exhaust popping felt like a jake-brake:smash:

It's normal, and you can hear it because you're exhaust is loud. If you had regular mufflers it would be a lot less noticeable, but it would still be there.
Here's a fun one to do, that is if you don't like your carbed. manual transmission car. As you're coming off of the throttle, turn the engine off. With the engine still off, Mat the throttle and then let off. turn the engine back on. BOOOM!!!! Ive blown mufflers in two. It's very violent, I would'nt recommend doing this to a car that you want to keep. It's pretty much the same thing that is happening in you're car, but on a mutch larger scale. Unburnt fuel is ingnighting in the pipes.

HAHA....back fire its funny when people are walking and you do it next to them......it happened to me a few times scared the shit out of me..:D
