The Ford Mustang SSP (Special Service Package) was one of the most legendary police vehicles ever built, providing law enforcement a means of high speed pursuit through the 1980s and early 1990s. Nearly 15,000 examples were built, and many still exist today in the hands of collectors.
While Ford Mustangs aren’t used expansively in police forces today, they are sometimes outfitted for duty like the 2014 Mustang GT you see here that’s used for instructional use. Recently Justin Bell, who’s had his fair share of time behind the wheel of a Mustang, got to take the car out for a spin and get a lesson on proper pursuit tactics as part of a segment on the World’s Fastest Car Show. Not surprisingly, Justin invokes the traction control system a little more than necessary and spends more time sideways than going straight. Does he have a future as a police officer? Highly doubtful.
