So I have been wanting to build a road race mustang for some time now, but I have a few things I am not sure about.
Just some background info on the car and my experience to better understand my question:
I currently have a mint 88 lx which someone before me swapped a v8 into and it was originally a 4 cylinder, The swap looks professional enough, 8.8 rear, v8 87-93 suspension, v8 t5, v8 has ac that works etc. but it is quite sloppy. Was missing front swaybar link (drivers side), harness looks half 4 cylinder/ half v8 in the engine bay (coil pack is rewired), Exhaust is terrible and has no tailpipes, gearbox was a rebuild, cruise control and a few other miscellaneous electronics not wired up.
I have no clue what was done to the car electrically and it is a mass air engine so I have no clue what year engine I have, not that it matters.
I used to have an 88 lx 4 cyl manual rustbucket which I bought with only the 85.5/86 svo engine and harness already swapped (they didnt bother to swap the rear end or disc brakes or transmission). Apparently they swapped the harness from the svo and merged it with the 88 lx 4 cyl harness and got most of the wires wrong such as the vam, I ended up puling the entire harness out and rewiring it. The car ran pretty well for a few months and then one day the engine lost compression and would not start, It was probably my fault as the car overheated 7 times on me, when i say overheat I mean the radiator bursted from the pressure but that is not important. I scrapped the entire car as everything was pretty much junk and decided I will start over.
I just need a suggestion, I only need a harness and an engine as I have a drivetrain for the car already, I am guessing that the v8 harness is completely different than the 4 cylinder, If I buy a turbocoupe as a parts car would it be better to buy an 87-93 4 cylinder mustang harness or will the thunderbird harness easily work for the mustang? I have thought about buying an svo but they are too expensive and I already have a shell
I know I am swapping a v8 for a 4 cylinder but track cars require balance and the v8 is just too heavy and doesn't distribute weight well
