time to start making it fast!

ok so i have been toying around with the idea of throwing NOS on the mustang.

I want to go faster but I want to do it right. I am expecting to be able to spend about 150-250 a month on it but can spend well more if i need be. What are your suggestions on what to mod and in what order to get the stang tearing down the track.

already have classic design concepts shaker intake with k&n filter and dynomax cat-back.

I also understand that hp is not the only thing that makes it fast so I'm open to all suggestions.

I like it loud, but thats just personal preference. I'm changing ou tmy dynomax and gettin some SLP LM 2's Soon. I'm looking for a bassini o/r x pipe as well

Also, SUSPENSION. LCAS, building your rear, shocks/struts, sway bars, springs...all these parts will help plant the power to the ground....I'm assuming it will be a street/strip car?

Good place to start is a set of gears, an aluminum driveshaft, a good shifter(idk if your car is a 5spd/auto..).

will be mostly a street car. it's a vert so not taking it to the extreme but i want to have fun with it and go fast when i do take it out to the track. I know a vert can not compete in a regular drag setting but being able to smoke a few in the street class would be nice.

already has a steeda shifter in it as well.

have thought about the supercharger as well. I am curious as to if it will work with the cdc shaker i have though or if i would need to scrap it.

cost- total i don't think it would be worth it to spend a ton since it's a vert. but i dunno how fast i am allowed to go at the track with a vert either. also there is the issue of changing classes. obviouslyt all things i thought about after deciding i want to go faster. i am thinking around 2k or so maybe more if its worth it to do it.

suspension i had thought of in the past. was thinking of getting a 1 inch drop with better springs. gears i can do, driveshaft is it really worth it?

You can make a Vertcar just as good as any other car with the right setup. They are heavier, but you can take weight out/make more power, and stiffen the chassis up some. Technically you need a roll bar at 13.49 or quicker in a vert, but that is often overlooked.

My mod list for that would go something like this:

HiTech Stage 2 cams
ZEX Nitrous kit (100 hit)
4.10's
Aluminum d/s (Cuts rotational mass, which is more advantagous than just taking out any weight)
Nitto 555R D/R's
Full exhaust
UPR Uca/Lca's
Subframe connectors

That setup tuned correctly will pull some pretty good times with a good driver. There is a guy in a coupe, with a similar setup(minus N20, but on slicks and skinnies) that ran a best of 12.1 on motor!

intake manifold- you won't see gains above 10hp without supporting mods i.e cai, maf, tb, cams etc
gears- 4.10s are streetable, if 80% or more of your driving is hwy
cams- would definately do with intake manifold
uca/lca's=upper control arms and lower control arms

Intake manifold is 100% a waste of money for you right now. A Trick Flow/BBK setup is well north of $600, and wont net you what you would think. Professional Products also makes a manifold that is a bit cheaper, but not as good as the TF/BBK.

4.10's are streetable. Daily'd them for 4 yrs.

Cams I would have someone do. If youre not mechanically inclined, its not the job for you(no offense). I had a buddy who thought he could do it, and ended up messing up the cam timing, threw 2 rockers, gouged the camshafts real bad, and actually cracked the d/s valve guides.

N20 will definately have to be a wet kit for your car.

UCA/LCA are suspension parts as stated above. Hope this all helps

What are your curent times? If you go with a N20 system, it would alos be best that you get a tune. Most systems that you will be able to run safely will net you about a second quicker down the track.
Go with what some of the other guys have said.
Suspension, Gears, Tires and practice. Look at the long run of what you want to do with the car.

You can throw parts at it all day long but you need to have a long term plan so you aren't changing things so many times.
Also, I'm a big fan of getting the supporting mods done 1st, like gears, subframe connectors, driveshaft and suspension. Then put the power adder of choice on it so you aren't breaking things right off the bat.
Nitrous is great for a weekend warrior like myself but on a daily driver I say turbo. If that's too much # for you then a supercharger would be the next best. Something like a Procharger or Vortech, not a roots IMO.

^^ Yup! Sitting down and making a plan is hands down the best thing you can do! No sense in doing shit 2-3X, that gets expensive...real quick!

lol thats the truth. i think i have decided to go with gears, tires, and a tune and hold from there. i am forseeing a 400+hp turbo stang in the future or a 4v swap.

my target is to remain fully streetable cruising with the wife and kids. suspension i may leave alone or do minor mods. I am also shooting for the 400 range to keep from having to do major internal modifications to the motor.

I think if it was a hardtop i would consider going bigger but with it being a vert it's just not worth it in my eyes

There are some FAST vert's out there man. Dont not build it just b/c of that!! GL with the build though, a turbo kit will put you a low 400whp and around 450rwtq+ with a good kit/tune!
