Rear suspension clunking when cold?

This morning I was driving to work and heard some clunking noises when going over bumps. The weird part is this only seemed to happen for about the first 5 minutes I drove when the car was still cold. Once it warmed up everything was fine.

The only changes from stock I have are snow tires and new axle-back mufflers. I highly doubt either of these would cause any issues. At first I thought it was maybe be snow brush and ice scrapers clunking around in the trunk but I could hear the noise while going over very small bumps as well.

Any ideas?

clunking noises coming from the rear can be caused by a few things.

-Check the trunk for kidnapped girlfriends
-check struts
-check control arm bushings
-since you mentioned new exhaust, check exhaust hangers.

Check ur exhaust setup ... I still got some noise when my car is cold like a thud thud thud ..... Once warm its gone. Fixing it this spring, so def. Check that out

At least half the axle back and cat back kits we see have hangars that are too long or in the wrong place. A lot of times we have to trim the hangar rods or they will clunk. Sometimes the clunk or rattle only happens when the car is cold. not hot, or vice versa. The whole exhaust expands fromt he heat enough to grow about a quarter inch in lenght. That is enough to cause someting to hit or not hit depending on temperature.

Also check the suspension bushings. Rubber and urethan get a lot harder when they are cold. If there is a little play in one of the bushings it may have a noticable clunk when the bushing is cold and hard, but go away when the bushings soften up a bit.

I'm pretty sure this is what it is, but I only have 3800 miles on this car so I'm sorta disappointed right now. Before I decide that's the issue I'll look into it once the weather gets a bit warmer though.

Well I was able to take a look at my exhaust yesterday and everything looked tight. Going to bring it into the dealership to have it looked at while I'm getting my free oil change. It seems to be making even more noise now.
