Question on your combo's

I am about to install AFR 165 and holley sytemax intake on my brother 92 conv. currently the motor has a b-cam and 1.7 rockers with comp cam springs, shorty headers, off road h-pipe, 65mm throttle body, 75mm maf C&L and the chinese edelbrock knock off intake. The AFR's I will be using 1.6 rockers, so I was thinking with only .480 lift it may not utilize the heads as well as can with other cams. I was thinking of either the Lunati 51014 cam, Wolverine 1087 knock off by speed pro, or an f-cam.

Of coarse I am going to check Piston to valve clearance, but it makes life easier if someone says they have used that combo with stock lower end and it did or did not clear for them. I would like to be able to complete the work the day/weekend I start on it and not have to look for another cam while it is apart.

Also, any input on the combo positive or negative is appreciated.

Probably should have mentioned, I had those heads on another car I had (Mark VII) and a custom cam which was .525 lift, 216 duration @ .050 and 276 advertised duration and was fine, but other specs of cams effect the clearance also, that's why I am looking for someone that maybe used the same combo and has an answer whether it worked for them or not.

I have AFR's on my car and i afree whey are a GREAT choice but to be honest i think your going to need at least a 70mm TB. the 65 will be not allowing enough air in.

You must have one for sale, hahaha, just kidding. Probably will go bigger TB and MAF, just that when I did the b-cam in the stock motor figured 65 was good choice. Although I have seen Mark VII's go 11's with a 65 TB.

On my old set up i ran afr165's 1.6 rockers and the lunati 51014 you will not have any clearing issues.I also ran an Elderbrock rmp 2 intake which is very similar to the systemmax,shorty headers and i had the car dyno tuned and it put down 309/317

I have the AFR 165's w/ a custom ground cam from camshaft innovations w/ 1.6 rr's w/ the RPM II as well and my #'s were very similar you Glue's

That was on the stock short block I assume???

Did you measure the clearance, or just wing it and it worked??

Yes it was a stock block.I had a shop do the work,not sure weather they measured or not.Prior to buying everything though i did allot of research

Instead of whoring every thread make sure you know wtf your talking about for once.94-95 Cobras came with 245hp and probably put 200 to the wheels.It cost me 2k to buy everything and figure a dime to install.so thats 3k for over 100rwhp

300 to 325 is pretty typical numbers I have seen from browsing with alum. heads on a 302. My buddies Mark VII rebuilt 304 with comp cams xe series, E7's ported by thumper was high 290's if I remember correctly.

I have a TFS 1 cam withb Edelbrock Performer 5.0 heads with the little 1.90 intake valves. I thought I could get away with no notching of my pistons but my clearence ended up being like .040 so i had my forged pistons put it and notched.

yea numbers dont mean shyt if you cant get it to the ground ive herad guys with no engine mods and slicks beatin modded cars cuz there gettin the power to the ground out of the holeshot
