Calypso Coral is one of the rarest and more desirable colors for the classic Boss 302 and 429 Mustangs, so when a pristine example goes up for sale it gets our attention. That’s the case for Mecum’s upcoming auction in Seattle later this month, except instead of just one car up for grabs it will be a complete collection of four Calypso Coral Boss Mustangs – a 1969 Boss 302, 1970 Boss 302, 1970 Boss 429 and a one-off 2012 Boss 302. The Mustangs are being auctioned off by The Legacy Collection, owned by business partners Josh Dykes and Tony Grover, who have spent the last several years searching for the best Calypso Coral Boss Mustangs available.
The collection started with a 1970 Boss 302 in Calypso Coral, which Dykes considers the Mustang’s premier color, which then prompted him to try and amass one of every Boss Mustang in the hue. Next up came a 1970 Boss 429 (the color wasn’t offered in 1969), which had received a world class restoration. For the other two cars, a 1969 Boss 302 and a 2012 Boss 302, he purchased them together as a set at Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale auction a couple years ago. The 2012 model is a one-off Patriot Edition raffled by the Mustang Dream Giveaway in 2011.
The two Mustang aficionados are now putting their Calypso Coral Boss Mustang collection up for sale, each car being offered separately at Mecum’s Seattle auction June 13-14.
