I worked on the car after work until about 11 on Thursday and Friday and got it running that night but I messed up stabbing the dizzy in because I was a little confused on the correct way to do it. But when I was gone to the NYS fair for the Rock Star Energy Drink Uproar Tour, my dad and his friend put the dizzy back to where it should've been. It was a great show btw, and today tied up a few loose ends and put the hood on it. Here is a few pics...





The cold air intake I bought didn't fit for shit on the car so I had to use what I had on before. The car wouldn't idle or run right with the hood on, the maf didn't like the air being blocked off I guess. So, I took the airbox off and left the filter where it was since the fenderwell cai wouldn't fit right. It drives pretty good now like that. Still adjusting a few things here and there, the new clutch is either on or off, no play so that is taking a little getting used to. The idle is set to about 850 because it takes a while for it to idle right at 750 and usually stalls. I took a vid, but it's not very good, I will get a better one up next week.

It's going to be tough to take it easy for 500 miles but I should be able to do it. :D There is a definite increase in power, the car shakes a bit at idle, lol. The exhaust got quite a bit louder too, didn't think that a hci would make it that much louder but it did. I will be surprised if I don't get a loud exhaust ticket this year. I will report back in with a video and a update of how well its running after the clutch break in period. I will most likely get a tune next year just to clean things up a little bit. And thanks again to dad for helping me out with this, I made him stay up way past his bedtime on Friday. :)

Awesome work Josh. Congrats. Looks amazing. Can't wait to hear it. I posted a clip of mine in the exhaust so you can hear a quick 3,000 rpm rev. Once I do dumps it'll probably be insanely loud lol.

That is true, and I didn't post one. I uploaded it to my computer and when I heard it, I was like wtf, that isn't too good.

Glad you got it going! I'm not sure why it didn't want to idle with the hood on? Should be getting plenty of air if the filter is clean in the box? Those meters are fussy though as far as the direction of airflow not so much quantity.

Some of the pics came out blurry, didn't notice that when I took them though.

Trickflow Specialties 170 cylinder heads on top of the short block, the cam is a XE 270 HR - 14. Was going to use a stock cam but came across this cam for a good deal, will also be using 1.7 roller rockers.



Radiator, electric fan, and the hoses are the first things to come out..



The A/C condenser and power steering pump and the bracket were the next things to come out.



The air box, maf, and air intake were taken off too.



Now the other side of the accessories, were unbolted, the alternator and the smog pump (which will not be making its way back on).



Never replaced a water pump before so I didn't expect there to be much coolant left in there after draining.. :rolleyes: Of course it went on the floor.



Took off the egr stuff, this will remain in the car, doesn't hurt to have it, turns off under WOT. Then I removed the upper intake and found some weird yellow and blue tie dye mark on the bottom of it. Wtf to that, lol.



Fuel rail and injectors were removed before the lower intake. The lower intake was next, some bracket on the back of the intake had to be taken off first. Didn't understand what use it was other than to be in the way. The valve covers came off too, need to test fit them with the 1.7s. A few of the old roller lifters will be converted to solid lifters to properly degree the cam and find the correct push rod length.



Another shot of the engine bay, significantly less cluttered, ha ha.



The heads looked pretty clean on top, I did a good job at keeping it maintained, no sludge!

Almost all the stock uppers I have taken off had that red/blue paint on them, I think it is just some kind of inspection marking. The bracket on the back of the intake is just a support bracket for the upper intake. Overkill from the factory...

Thanks Dave, I have no idea either, the Pro M says its calibrated for a cold air intake so I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I hear yes and no with that issue. The air filter is clean to, I just recharged it last year. It runs pretty good without a tune, but I think I will see about getting one next year for a few slight issues.

Ah ok, I thought it was kinda weird, I see that it's not just mine though. Yeah, I wasn't sure what the deal was with the bracket. :rolleyes:

Thank you Tom, and no I wanted to get the car done so I could enjoy some more power before I put it away. :D If it was a winter project I probably would've filled the holes in the engine compartment and tucked the wires but I really didn't want to mess with that now. It's not really a show car, lol.

Ok, here is a final pic of what the engine bay looks like. I bought a nib BBK blackout CAI from a member on another forum who went with a different CAI. I finally got around to readjusting the rockers since I did them a little wrong and put the new cai on too. I also did a few videos too, obviously in real life it sounds better, oh well.

I figured I would update my thread a little bit. I have a few things that I want to get done this year, such as upgrading the front brakes with the SSBC kit (SVO calipers, rotors, pads, stainless steel brake lines, and bigger master cylinder), aluminum drive shaft, and hopefully a tune in the next few months. I got a new tach and shift light for Christmas, and I bought new door arm rest pads (which don't fit as well as the original ones, Chinese quality :rolleyes:) and sometime this week my window run channel weatherstripping will be in stock. I also picked up a can of VHT niteshade and a can of clear coat to tint my tail lights and fog lights better, the tint is starting to peel off. Anyhow, here's a few pics, I went with black door arm rest pads to break up all of the gray they put in there, lol.
