Since Ford launched the 2015 Mustang back in December they haven’t been shy about showing off the whole car except for one part – the engine bay. At every auto show the hoods were closed on every 2015 Mustang, and the one time we did spot one – an EcoBoost model at the Chicago Auto Show – we only managed to get a few photos before we were spotted and the hood was immediately shut.
We finally got our first look at the 2015 Mustang GT’s engine bay at the Monterey Motorsports Reunion this past weekend at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. A Triple Yellow example with the 50 Years Appearance Package that we showed you earlier had the hood wide open with the V8 on display. While the 5.0-liter engine received a few upgrades from the Boss 302 parts bin – horsepower is bumped from 420 to 435 and torque moves from 390 lb-ft to 400 lb-ft – the appearance and layout has change somewhat as well. The engine cover features a slightly revised design, and the 5.0 badge is now backed by a metal plate. One of the more curious changes is the sound induction tube connected to the air intake, which now runs through a small box placed near the main air box, which appears to be longer and thinner. The coolant reservoir tank isn’t covered like previously, although the battery in the back corner is now hidden under plastic.
