Optima battery?

So my stang is dead again. This time it's only the battery. Im kinda stuck on what to buy as a replacement. Currently I run an 800 watt amp w/2 12"s. It hits but its not overwhelming. I would like the optima but im not sure whether to go with a red top or yellow. Since I put the system in the lights did dim and I did add a capacitor to it too.

any input?

Optima Yellow top. What Farad cap are you running?? An 800 watt amp is only going to give you roughly 5+ RMS. For the lights to dim it is not because of you battery. It is your alternator unable to replenish the current draw.

I would upgrade the alternator first.

What size power wire are you running?
how long is the ground cable and what size?


There are many factors here, but the alternator is the main one.

My friend has a durango with ALOT of stuff that use electricity. Power compressor, big sound system, projector lights, all the fun stuff.. he has an optima battery and some sort of generator as a back up =\. I`m pretty sure they are good batteries

Yeah, I probably need to upgrade the ground wire and the rest of the "big three" as they call them on the12volt.com. its pretty whimpy, not sure what gauge but it's not much heavier than speaker wire. The positive to the 1farad cap is 0 gauge (the ground might be 2 guage).
I do want to up the alternator but the battery is the priority right now.

also, anyone know where to get a H.O. alt. for a 2000 v6?

I opted for the Red-Top 34/78 series. It's got 1000ca 850cca w/the 100 min. reserve. Should be great for the winter months coming up. Not bad for the $140 I paid for it (It was a demo but I still get the full 3 year warranty). I had to mod the battery tray and install some nylon straps. doesn't look bad, but it'll have to do till I get a billet tray for it.
