need help identifying this engine bolt!

Can someone please help me Id this yeilded bolt I found in the bottem of my oil pan. Took a picture of it next to a lighter so you can see the size. No idea where it came from. Thanks everyone

Is it possible it came from the head and drained down. Don't want to pull the valve covers if its jus some random bolt my dealer dropped in there.

The oil drains from the heads to the block I was thinking, it is pretty small of a bolt. That's was my first thought actually

Even if it did it would probably have gotten thrashed by the timing chains I would think and that thing looks brand new.

I can honestly say I have never seen that type of bolt. It appears to be a dowl for a guide to ride on, but no way it would make through the oil passage and survived that well.

That is the spacer that goes on the end of your oil pick-up tube.

One end of the tube bolts to your oil pump, the other end (by pick-up screen) is supported by that spacer. The end with the bolt molded into it is threaded inside and screws onto a main bearing cap stud.

I'm fairly certain that there's a nut for the other end of that spacer that the bracket on the pick-up tube is secured with. Did you find a small nut too? If not I'd look for one.


Notice that bracket on the oil tube ... that's where it goes.

My pickup tube looks different from that one but i must day the bracket that secures to the windage tray does look like a replacment fastener was installed yet none of the big nut style stud spacers had anything yeilded inside of them. Also that bolt does have a hex at the end. I lost one of my tensioners before and skipped timeing but my dealer serviced the engine. I just band aid fixed a spun rod bearing i just want the engine to hold till I have time to do a proper forged rebuild. I appreciate all the input everyone. Just didn't want to blow something up that could have been prevented. Mind you my oil pickup had a legitimately piece of paper completely sucked across the screen and blocking it along with tons of aluminum shavings from the spun bearing. What a pita. Had to drop my k member for the second time in a week. If I had the money I would have gone tubular but also need to rebuild my rearend and do all my bushings. The fun never ends.

I just finished my build last month. It was around May when I put my motor together and I'm 99.99999% positive that is your oil pump pick up tube spacer. I was wrong as to how it goes on but your pic looks just like my spacer does.

I'm at work so pics are tricky, the pick up tube I posted was just to show you the bracket on it.

Another thing I can't shake is the end of the threaded part. It looks like it snapped right there. Is your windage tray about that thick? ei ... the hight of the threads. Something like this ...

None of this is "just like yours" but it's all the same general assembly. You difinitely have something going on in there and I'd dig a little deeper into the situation before you put the oil pan back on.
