MAC longtubes

So I am always looking into all power options for my stang and I was looking at long tube headers....

I know we usually use the rule of "you get what you pay for" but the Mac systems seem to be pretty in expensive....I was wondering on their quality and power gains...Unfortunately I have a stock header X pipe right now so I wiuld prob look into their off road x pipe also...All thoughts but

MAC makes a good product. I ran MAC ceramic coated LT's with a prochamber on my last car and I loved them. They were around $500 and they sounded great and made nice power.

That sounds like some power I want But its quite the price difference (I believe)

I did quite a few mods at once so I couldnt tell you if I noticed a difference from that specific mod BUT they are good stuff, I highly recommend them I also recommend stage 8 header bolts from Summit Racing and a MAC Prochamber

Are the header bolts you recommended just a upgraded bolt?? ANd I never really have known about prochambers...Are they just for sound???

I've been running MAC Long Tubes on my car since 2003 and I got them 2nd hand. They have lasted and are high quality, but 7 years later it's time for a new set. I'm picking up a set of American Racing Headers soon and not looking back.

make sure you buy a set that allows for transmission removal with the headers in place. not all companies are designed around getting the trans out without removing atleast one header first. if you ever need a clutch or trans repair it goes from a sizeable job to a huge job if the headers have to come out also.

mac LT's are one of the few longtubes that allow you to keep your headers on and drop the transmission IIRC. I have them currently and I love them, I only have them and an O/R H and you've heard how my car sounds with the stock CB. The install is an absolute bitch though, i ended up dropping my whole k-member+ suspension to get them on. Be careful though if your not installing them they will cost you about 500 bucks in labor to put them in... as for gains im not sure, they dont give you peak numbers but they gave me a broader torque curve in the mid-range and a bit up top.

A good number to check out is the trap speeds ppl put down with them, with my mods I almost trap 105 which is stage 2 cam territory

Another thing, dont get the chrome ones, they suck! I got them because they were cheaper and the chrome paint made snapping noises within 1 minute of start up... the paint was flying off!!!! luckly i hadn't installed the k-member yet so i removed them and repainted them with header paint... but still.

I ran Mac's long tubes on my last combo. They were very good for the price and we picked about 18hp to the tire at 21psi vs stock manifolds. I had to switch to ARH for my new combo just because Mac does not make anything big enough for a serious set up.

One more question on this though guys...
What will be needed for a tune....Anything....I have a SCT Xcal3 tunner but I purchased it from AM...Will I still be able to get a mail order tune from theme for the Mac long tubes even though they don't sell Mac products?????

Here's my two cents.

I wouldn't even bother with the headers. Big job and cost and you won't even feel the difference in power let alone with a N/A 2v. Just remove your cats and call it a day.

If you want to do them just to say you got L/T headers and don't mind paying all that money for a few more hp then go for it I guess.

I want to do theme because Im thinking on building the 2v NA ,so every little bit of power counts! Not just to say I have theme :smash: Im planning for cams after theme and then hopefully a nice dyno tune to top it all off....All In time of course!

if you install them yourself the cost is almost cut in half. I did mine in a weekend, like mentioned the power you get isn't amazing, but the sound is well worth it. You've heard my car and thats with the stock cans.
