lowering springs- what else 'needed'?!

my new H&R SS springs are here
! my question is, what else is absolutely 'necessary' to do job? i am planning on new struts/shocks, and steeda or MM cc plates, and i have a good alignment guy 'lined up'
. btw, car is '04 GT with 60k, 5 speed w/some modest mods, and stock rear gears(for now
)

i really dont want to get into bumpsteer kit(my mech says prob not needed), ball joints(although i'd like to add the steeda X2s
at when time comes to replace),control arms, or new bushings unless they are needed.

advise appreciated
; b4 and after pics to come.

wow, sounds great:headbang:... y u not using the eibach strut/shock combo???

like i said, wish could do sway and bushings, ball joints, bumps and stabilizers etc. just aint got the xtra scratch rite now :(

You might want to consider adjustable upper control arms to get the pinion angle back to what it's supposed to be. If the H&R SS on the New Edge give a similar drop as they do on the S197 you'll want to do that.

is that a recommendation, or necessity(do you think)? again the budget(and over-tinkering) is of issue

that had not been mentioned or seen in most other posts/forums on topic, which is why i ask...

You wil be fine w/ what you are doing, altho I would get complete suspension installed, if your doing struts & shocks, before alignment.

thanks. yes, i plan to do the springs, struts/shocks (prob not the quad shocks though) and cc plates, all at once, and then the alignment.

I wanted to drop my car quite a bit (1.5" or more) but decided it would have ended up being too expensive. Just gonna throw this suggestion out there...

I ended up going with something a bit more conservative and went with the Pro-Kit since it lowers the front 0.8" (shouldn't require any camber adjustment outside of an alignment) and lowers the rear 1.2" (pinion angle stays within factory spec). Along with this I got the struts and strut mounts as you will need to replace the mounts even if you're doing just springs, so why replace the mounts twice if you plan on getting struts in the future. With the springs, struts, and strut mounts I ended up spending just under $500. I'll be grabbing some shocks at some point but for what I paid and how awesome my car feels right now I would definitely make the same choice again.

CC plates and control arms aren't cheap. The CC plates are probably the worst. Just something to think about.

Thanks(I think?!:smash:) for something to think about... you're car is newer than mine, so don't know if maybe we kinda talking "apples and oranges".

When you say strut 'mounts', you mean the cc plates??? And you mean the cc plates are 'just expensive', not 'bad', correct?

Also, this whole control arm and pinion thing getting me confused:confused:. We're talking rear, or front(or both!) and what about new pinion snubber(if you know)?

Strut mounts and CC plates are the same except for the fact that strut mounts have no adjustments. If the camber is a bit off you could always get camber bolts which cost maybe $25. The ones I got got my car are actually GT500 mounts. They're a bit more heavy duty but they only cost $94 instead of the $300 some of the CC plates cost. Either way you could just get a set of the normal mounts which would be cheaper. Give your dealership a call and see how much they charge.

Technically you don't HAVE TO upgrade your upper control arms to fix your pinion angle but if you're going to be doing some spirited driving (which most of us do) I would recommend getting these.

I can get good cc plates for my vehicle for less than 2 bills. Again, and pardon my stupidity, but upper control arms and pinion angle on rear or front?

That's for the rear. It's the angle where the driveshaft and rear differential meet. When you drop the rear of your car the angle at which the driveshaft meets the differential becomes more severe. Here's an illustration to give you a better idea.



If you can get CC plates for under $200 then do that. Makes sense.

Well, what you're doing at the moment should have no problem working with each other and there's really nothing else you "need" to do at the same time. Supposedly you should eventually do a bumpsteer kit and ball joints because when you lower your car and you hit potholes/bumps/etc., your car will tend to pull to the sides. I'd recommend the spring isolators. They're cheap compared to the other parts your getting.
