Intake Manifold Issues

Hey ya'll. Mustang is hurting bad right now. I cracked the intake nipple that goes to the heater core. I got a replacement intake off of Ebay for $50, but it too was broken. I was wondering if I would be able to tap the intake with a pipe thread and use that to connect to the heater core hose. Do you think this would work? Right now I have a universal nipple going into the intake/heater core hose with JBWeld. It has held it, but I have not put her sideways or driven over 5 miles. The car does not overheat or leak, I have let it run idle for 30+ minutes with the heat off and on. Normal operating temps, no leaks.
I know I should just buy a new intake, wish I had enough for an all aluminum one ($550 +), but I want to see if I could thread one of the two broken intakes that I now have. Thanks all for you input and suggestions!

I have my old intake off my 2002 saleen that i changed when i put the KB on. If your interested in buying a good one that isnt broken let me know haha.

It will fail in time as it has been done before. I would seriously look into the offer above as his has the updated metal crossover. The professional products intake you are looking at(metal one) is GARBAGE. They have more metal slag in those things....Also people were paying quite a bit of money to have them machined to fit the heads as the ports didn't line up.

The stock PI intake on a N/A setup that doesn't see over 7k rpms is about the best bang for buck intake manifold sadly.

How much for the intake? I just got the invoice for the other parts needed :thumbsdown: $373.99.

This is where I got the list of additional items. Best intake I can find is $180 from AM. I am almost forced to do the install by myself seeing though any shop would charge $75+ at 4-5 hours so there's another $300. I really hate my stang right now! :nono:

My new PI intake should be in today. I am also waiting on the other install parts. I told the wife that I needed a new TB/Plenum as well so those are coming next week too! Pretty excited to get the stang ripping again!

these are pics from an install guide I found on the net. is that carbon buildup there? it looks like this engine is really dirty. when I make my swap, if it looks like this is there any way to clean it without hurting anything. i dont want to start cleaning and have shit fall down and f something up. :thumbsdown:

I just got my Intake last night.



These are pics of the crossover, should it be scratched up like this? Maybe im being anal I dunno. What do you think?

No it shouldn't be. Did you buy it new or used? If new I would ask them to refund a portion of the price back because you will have to sand it and you use your car in shows.:evil:

The scratches aren't going to hurt anything but you didn't pay for a scratched up intake either. AM has great customer service. Contact Nick in the American Muscle section and see if he can do anything for you.
When reinstalling the intake, make sure you rub a thin layer of oil on the gasket.

thanks scott. I contacted Nick this morning and he is taking care of me. AM does have awesome customer support. I had issues awhile back with headlights and they took good care of me.
Oil on the gasket and RTV on the inside of the gasket correct?

When I did mine, I used no RTV. I slathered a touch of oil on each side and was done with it. My application was different. Same type of gasket though. I would follow the AM instructions you posted in post #4, just to avoid any problems. Good luck and remember to take plenty of pictures of the progress and post them.

i hope you know that besides the intake manifold you also need new water pump nipple, new gaskets, new hose,and i believe something else. my friend bought the whole set even with silicone for 300, and installed it in one day. i can give you the phone and email address of the guy who sells it

Yea, I got the stuff from another Ford Dealer. Tousley Ford actually. Pretty good prices. Paid a lot less than the local ford place.

got the intake installed today. not too bad of an install, nothing is leaking (knock knock) and its pulling pretty hard, here's a few pics. sorry for the quality its a crappy camera phone...ill have to get some of the broken intake and post em tomorrow. Very happy that it worked out well! :awesomework:
