Ive come across a 97 Explorer. Its a roll over and is being scraped. I got the intake off of it and the heads as well. 2 questions are coming to mind. Are the heads worth rebuilding? And what mods are required to fit the intake. I know the intake bolts on...but looking at some E-Bay adds all the ones that say ready to bolt on have modifications to it. I'm assuming its vacuum hose mods or egr mods. I'm debating on running it or not... Was going with a carb set-up but bought another short block to build up for carb setup for another car.
Or I'm going to mod and refinish the intake to hook someone up with a good deal or trade on another carb set-up.
As for the heads.... I got a quote for complete rebuild valves, seals, deck surface, etc of about 350$ from Northeast Machine.
They are the only place I've ever dealt with on machine cylinder heads. I don't know if there is any other place in Buffalo area that can do it cheaper or not. The heads definitely need to be rebuilt as the have 177K on them and don't look like they have ever been off.
Thanks!
