Last month Ford announced that it would open pre-ordering for the 2015 Mustang in Europe during the UEFA Champions League final on May 24, and when the whistle blew to start the game the orders started flooding in. It took just 30 seconds for Ford to receive 500 reservations, the total allotment of Mustangs they had designated for pre-ordering, and overall 9,300 people from 20 different countries signed up for a chance to receive one of the first 500 cars.
“We knew there was huge excitement building for the new Ford Mustang coming to Europe, but the response during the UCL Final was overwhelming,” said Roelant de Waard, vice president, Marketing, Sales & Service, Ford of Europe. “It was a truly special way to kick off the Ford Mustang era in Europe.”
Over the next few weeks Ford will notify the 500 customers who put in their order the quickest, who will then be invited to complete their order at a dealership at a late date. Customers can choose between the Fastback model in Race Red or the convertible in Magnetic Silver, both of which will include a special package. They will also be able to pick from the 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine or the 5.0-liter V8. European pricing has not yet been announced.
