Brake Upgrade for 09' GT

Hello, NY Mustangs,
I own a 2009 Mustang GT and am getting near the time to do just do the regular maintenance on the brakes, so my thought was instead of just replacing it w/ stock parts use the money towards an upgrade of the brakes. Any suggestions, I have been looking at the Ford Racing stuff, but wanted to see what you guys would say and what your experience has been. I have the 18" stock rims. You guys have always been great, so I look forward to your expertise. Thanks

If you have coin, go with the brembo upgrade. If not, at least slotted rotors with hawk pads or ebc.

I would go for the brembo big brake setup. That is what i am doing soon.

Do they have a front and back brake pkg for the 09' GT? i'm assuming I could find it on their website.

Yes they do. It will run about 2k for the complete setup.

Now it looks like you can't buy from Brembo directly, American Muscle has the front brake pkg for $2K, but I don't find the rear brake pkg. Any suggestions on an install shop or would you suggest going to the dealer?

Can you do any of the work yourself? It's really not that difficult of a job to be honest. Save a lot of coin that way...or just use it to purchase more goodies!

Now it looks like you can't buy from Brembo directly, American Muscle has the front brake pkg for $2K, but I don't find the rear brake pkg.

All the hard stopping is done by the front brakes. The with stickier tires and better front brakes you can stop even harder which transfers even more weight to the front (and off of the back) which means the the fronts can do even more and the back brakes can do even LESS or else they will lock up. This is why the GT500 has bigh brakes in the front but the same brakes in the back as the GT.

Now, if you want big brakes in the back for cosmetic reasons there are several big brake kits for the back ranging in price from $500 to over $2000.

Any suggestions on an install shop or would you suggest going to the dealer?

It is actually embarrassing how mechanically UNinclined I am. I do make attempts around the house and way too often I make it worse and if that were to happen to my 'stang, I would not be able to forgive myself. I have thought about going to mechanic school, but the tuition is more than paying somebody else to do it. I love Mustangs but am a walking mess maker when I try stuff mechanically.

So you think I only, need the fronts and I tend to agree w/ you. What is your estimate for the brake job? Would you be able to purchase the kits at cheaper price because you are a shop? While your at it what would you quote me for a cold air intake w/ a tune? I'm probably not going to do this until June just to let you know.

Do brakes yourself for sure. Not too difficult in warm weather. I replaced both the pads and rotors on my 2007 Civic Si about 6 months ago and it only cost me $300 for StopTech OE rotors and Hawk HPS Street pads. Granted they were smaller than those in the Mustang but it increased my braking power quite a bit!
