Looking to replace my battery since I'm starting to feel it might finally be going, beleive it or not its the original battery from 2007. I was driving around last night had no problems until I finally started to notice the wierd sound coming from the radio was part of the techno track, and my volt meter was actually at 0. as long as I give it a bit of gas the car runs fine but leaving it in drive and holding the break drains the battery completely.
I'm guessing just needs a new battery, was thinking of just spendign a little more going with a red top Optima but wanted to see if anyone had any other recommendations.
Get the yellow top optima. The red top is for heavy amperage draw, better suited for trucks with a winch, lights, and other high amperage draw.
The yellow top is the same deep cycle, but has more Cold cranking amps. That is what you are looking for. Unless you have a big stereo system with multiple amps and such.
If you are noticing a glitchy voltage, I would also check the alternator. The s197 has a bad rep for eating the factory battery and alt. I went through 5 factory batteries in about 2 yrs. Since I got the yellow top. Not a single problem.
Thanks Wicked, I been wondering which was best so I'll go ahead with the Yellow Top, I heard alot of good stuff with Optima. I know it costs more then the others but rather invest in something I know will work. I also have a small fear it could be the Alternator going but I barely drive the car, it just hit 31,600 then again not like it makes a difference, good news is I bought an extended warrenty from Ford before I bought out the lease so my car is still covered. My dad said though since I rarely drive and the weather just been so hot and humid and the car is in an open lot that the battery just is taking a toll from the elements, plus it drained pretty low last time I tuned it so think it's finally lossing it's charge. Since I mention tune this could also be part of it, SCT put out an Emergency Urgent firmware upgrade for SF3/X3 devices so maybe i'll go stock, upgrade and flash see if maybe that caused the issue. Unfortunately no codes got thrown so I can only guess. Either way I still should get the Optima.
LOL wow I should change the meme from Bad Luck Brian to Bad Luck Baz.
So I was going to install the battery this weekend, but SCT put out a critical upodate for SF3/X3 devices so I figured might aswell do it while I'm parked next to my dad's truck I'll just run the jumper cables until I get the tune all setup (live in brooklyn and keep the cars at a lot), Set it to stock and unfortunately find out TMobile cut off my tethering s o had to head back to the house to update, there the device failed to update the tune revision but got the firmware, since I use BAMA went to load my custom tune, well that failed with the device saying can't open file, came back tried to reload my BAMA files, looks like my tuner got bricked... so now I gotta call SCT and hope they can simply remote into my pc and reflash the device. LOL man my luck!
Phase 1 - fixing the tuner completed, SCT has some good tech support, they were able to remote in and wipe the tuner and reload the FW, luckly i have some BAMA tune files saved so i can upload them back on the tuner and all should be well.
Unfortunately gotta get ready for work so I won't be able to run the tune in my car till tomorrow.
