Anyone have or had this problem?

Never had it, but sounds like there isn't any juice getting to the spark plugs. Could be a loose distributor wire or failing coil pack. Also could be ignition starter going bad, or spark plugs burning out. First thing I would check though is the battery, if the leads are loose then it could cause a short where everything seems to work but not enough juice gets through to spark the plugs. If your saying you smell gas means atleast your injectors are working and filling the cylinders with air/fuel so once the engine starts it burns a little rich for a moment.

) but I'm feeling sure its a loose battery lead. I had same thing on my old BMW and my dad's Buick where the battery wires were loose everything would light up, but the engine wouldn't start. My solution usually had me go to the battery and beat it up until I felt like tightening the connection. Hopefully that fixes it for you. Also noticed you got a CEL, could be related?
