Any ever take their windshield out?

I got some rust on but sides of my windshield and I know that if I leave it if will crack the windshield(happened in my dad's truck). Any tips for taking it out and putting it back it? I'm reusing it so smashing it out is not an option. lol

They make a windshield removal tool that hooks up to air hose and cuts the windshield sealant out. Even using the tool its very easy to break the windshield make sure you have an extra pair of hands to take it out. Slow and easy does it with this. After this is out scrape the old sealant out and clean it. They make a windshield sealant you apply with a caulk gun. Good luck

Its a bitch. Ive successfully removed a few with some piano wire and two pairs of vise grips using a sawing motion after spraying WD40 on the sealant.

Works sometimes but other times the windshield still cracks.

Heat and piano wire, my uncle can do it awesome but he grew up in a junkyard LOL. My father has a heated tool that melts it and cuts thru it easy. Check YouTube for a DIY.

Yeah I'll check into some clips on youtube. Should I spray it with WD40 and lwt it sit for a couple of days and then go at it with heat and the wire?

It's really hit or miss to get one out with out breaking it. Even the pros wont guarantee they can remove one with out breaking it. I wish you luck.

I used heat and a urethane knife that you can buy from MAC tools. Takes throw away razor blades. I went through about a dozen of them and cut around the perimeter twice. Once i cut through it a foot or so i sprayed WD 40 to keep itself from gluing itself back together.
