I figured it would be a good time to start a build thread as there is so much going on with our fleet.
As most know the Banana is no longer going to be Shane's LD (MOMS Racing Drag radial Limited Class) car and it has been replaced with Ab & Mary Jane Ali's Calypso hatch (aka The" Lesbian"). This car is one of the cleanest I have ever seen and is sitting proud ready to take the thrashing duties of a Vanstrom Bros. race car.
The Banana is compleley stripped and the shell and front clip are going to a guy who needs some body panels. A lot of parts have sold but much more is still for sale so let us know if you need anything.
We originally were going to use the Banana's 306 "as-is" to race a season but we started finding parts and well.......you know. Needless to say we are still using the stock block, crank, rods and TRW flat tops that were in the engine but I am rebuildng the whole thing. Shane purchased a set of ported Twisted Wedge 170cc heads and an intake off of NMRA for a song. No, they are no longer 170cc, they are now 200cc heads with raised intake ports, 7/16 studs, 2.055/1.60 ferrea valves with a sick bowl blend and then finished off by the ultra talented Matt Schaff at Pro-Formance. I spec'd out the cam for it then found one very similar to what I wanted in an "off the shelf cam". The new pro-systems carb, ported super vic, new comp cams hyd. roller lifters, comp cams magnum 1.6 rockers, canton main girdle and pan and obviously bearings, oil pump, rings and timing chain are all siting at the shop waiting for me to put together. Thanks Matt for all the great work you guys did with the block and heads in such a short time and we really appreciate it!!
The trans will be the same trans brake c4 that was in the banana but it's getting an SFI bell, deep aluminum pan and scattershield.
The rear end is at Vito's getting all welded up. I have already removed the quad shock mounts from the housing and cut off the bearings and seal ends in anticipation of the 31 spline axles with elims. The 31 spline trac loc has been removed and is getting replaced with a spool and the Moser girdle is fresh in the box from summit.
The last update for now is the UPR street suspension is coming out and going in Nikki's vert. Shane is picking up a full UPR Pro series raer suspension with anti roll bar.
I'm hoping to have that car done in about 3 weeks but we still have to pull all the F/I stuff and stock tank and power steering out 1st. This car is still being set up to fit the class rules for LD.
