when installing 3.73 gears do you also need to install a new gear in your spedometer so it can match up in an 1989 FoxBody? I heard you can do it through your computer also.
Need a new Speedo gear. I think it is the tan gear, it is a few bucks and takes 10 minutes to change. The Speedo is cable, so no way for a computer to recalculate that.
Yeah the new speedo gear is needed if you want the speedometer to read correctly. Mine is off about 3-5 mph from the 3.73s and the original gears were 3.08s.
Yeah with some help from a school garage. Were over looked by mechanics with many of years of knowledge and we can bring in cars to do whatever like engine swaps, bang out dents, paint, window replacement. We get all parts 15% off because of education purposes.

Good luck with the install my speedo is about 15 mph off but I'm running a tire which is no where near the stock size. I just wish I went with 4.10's or 4.30's in my car.
You'll love the gears, good luck. I have 4.10's in mine. The speedo gear is $15 from Late Model Restoration and includes a new clip as well. Easy 5 minute swap out. They even give you directions on the site.
Red 21 tooth in an '89. I have changed a pile of gears, just did some 4.10 gears in a 99 GT this week. The 90-93 have to use a white 23 tooth speedo gear which is not as accurate but the only choice.
