Yes, the 4.0 has forged rods. But they're kinda thin. The pistons are cast aluminum, so they're just as weak against knock as the 4.6's pistons are. The 4.6 uses powder cast rods because it allows Ford to manufacture a shit-ton of rods at a low cost, thus keeping the car's cost down.
