Like I said, check it with a scanner first then take it in. I didn't and had to go back too. It won't happen again next year.

Why did your tuner turn off the o2 monitors ?

I don't believe the 02 sensors have to be turned off ...

I do the tune switch every year to pass inspection. Then switch back.

I've read, that the sensors are switched off to improve performance, but don't quote me

Have 2 tunes dueling banjos and the blues...the blues always passes inspection.

With the older NYS Emissions Machines, they did not detect the O2 sensors being turned off. Ever since NYS contracted with the current manufacturers of the machines they've made improvements beneficial to NYS in order to make emissions more stringent.

BTW, I switch the tune back and forth every year on my 4.6 Ford Explorer because I have a tune with O2 sensors turned off. My Mustang has a custom tune with the O2 sensors turned on but I have MIL Eliminators installed and I Don't need to to switch tunes.

That's odd. I have a V2 Race tune from Bama and I passed no problem this year.

I would like to add I went to get my Explorer inspected on Tuesday and my wife failed to mention she drained the battery the day before leaving the interior light on all day. All the sensors registered "Not ready". $37 down the drain. Took it 2 days later after driving truck and was instructed by the "Tester" NYS allows 1 sensor "Not ready" and the vehicle could be tested. Needless to say, I had to pay another $27 for the emissions part of the test.

holy crap. You gotta move haha. I go to a local ford dealer and pay $21 for my inspection no matter how many times it has to go back after failing. And they do not do the sniffer test around here

Yeah I actually checked the DMV site before I went the second time and NYC inspection rates are different then other areas of NY. After checking the DMV site I expected the $27 retesting fee, But it doesn't mean I liked it. If I'm gonna get screwed I'd like to be "Wined & Dined" first, lol. NYS just does the screwing!

The NYS Emissions Inspection is based off of on-board monitors. If you are old enough to remember the dyno and the exhaust probe that they used to use then you have a better understanding of what they are testing now. The same test is being performed today on the cars we now call OBDII, except now the test are the responsibility of the vehicle manufacture. Most of us have experienced the "You need to drive your car for 20/50/100 miles to set the monitors". Every car is different even mustang to mustang is different. They tell you that you need to drive because under normal driving conditions your car will run these test it then stores the results in the computer's memory for the inspection machine to receive. This is the same reason that if you change your battery before you bring your normal car to get inspected "You need to drive your car for 20/50/100 miles to set the monitors" Now when your mustang has aftermarket parts it throws the cars highly developed testing software for a loop due to the strict criteria of the test. When a "Tooner" shuts off the cars ability to run these test your car has a problem reporting the the inspection machine. When a car is properly calibrated by a Tuner the cars computer still has the ability to run the test and report the results to the inspection machine.

It shouldn't matter what tune you have on the car it should pass inspection if it was done by a proper/experienced Tuner. If you think that a supercharged 600hp mustang will run safely on a stock tune then you are asking for trouble.

My apologies for the rant. If you have any questions feel free to give me a call at the shop.

Its all just NYS getting the sales tax on parts that have to be purchased to keep with the new leaner regs just like everything else this state does born here really wish I could leave here lol. Fighting an up hill battle myself trying to get the tune off my car that was done at Florida Speed by Rob Wells himself. Turned off Cat monitor, Evap, and EGR so system shows them not ready!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! beyond frustrating.
