I kinda agree with the concept of the checkpoints, if they did a better job doing their own job, I'd be more on board with it. And without a doubt Jim, I do get a sense of commie in there

Nonsense. They don't lessen anything but your freedom to travel unmolested by government goons, but that's how they con otherwise intelligent people into not only accepting, but also liking their captivity.
