You'd go 427 over the typical 393-408 stroker? I've heard of reliability issues though with the 351 being stroked to 427, so that would be my only concern. Although I'm sure I could just buy a 427 stroker instead.

you can make plenty of power on a 302 if you build it right. I say 331...

It's kind of a convenience really, because most motors weather big block, small block, supercharged or strokers, you can buy them already built. And most are reasonably priced too, and they usually come with top of the line parts as well. And a lot of times they are cheaper than buying all the parts to build your own. So unless you wanna build it yourself, it's a wonderful alternative, and there's plenty of motors & places to choose to buy them from unlike the old days where you pretty much had to do everything yourself.

331 over a 347? Any reasons why? And you can make 500-600 off a 302 without a supercharger? Didn't think that was possible, at least not with staying reliable anyway.

I like the 331 over a 347 in a SBF because if you are going with a stock block it gives you some room to bore it out to a 347 if something ever happens down the road. You can make 500hp on a 331 NA if you put a good set of heads on it and build it right.

Well I'd probably be buying the stroker engine anyway, so it'd depend more on what they've assembled it with lol. I don't personally have the know how to completely build it myself.

Don't let the ladies bamboozle you, there is no substitute for inches.

Suppose I could always go the cheaper boosted 03/04 Cobra 4.6 motor route. :-)
