Hey everyone,
The original trans on my '65 Coupe just disintegrated (long story). Everything's shot to hell, even the case, so there's no rebuilding this one.
Has anyone else ever had to do a straight replace on one of these? I'm not a gear head at all, I just like to drive the car. I trust my mechanic (he's great) and his suggestion is to build a new one from new repro parts. I like that idea for durability and I don't care about originality). It's just super expensive.
We looked at buying one pre-built from Performance Automatics but he doesn't trust it, plus, the full trans, torque converter, etc. from them plus his labor works out to almost the same price.
I don't know if a used trans is a good idea or will just cost more in the long run. But does anyone happen to have one lying around their garage?
