Make sure you check it idling in park with the engine warm. If there is any fluid in the cross hatched area DO NOT ADD!! If low only add a little at a time. As for the mufflers, unless you have done it before I recommend bringing the the car to an exhaust shop. It's the only way you wil be satisfied with the outcome. Things don't always line up perfectly so it can be difficult.
so i checked it while the car was warm and idling....went through the gears before i checked it....there is no fluid in the crosshatched section on the "W" side
Well, they pull the trans. pan to drain all the old tranny fluid, clean the pan of all clutch shavings and debris, inspect for damage, change the filter, reinstall the pan with a new gasket and fill it with new fluid. Should be done on regular intervals. Look at you owners manual to determine the schedule for this. It's just like an oil change but for your transmission. Often neglected as well.
