Opening Day 2009: Watkins Glen International
Here is your chance to drive the legendary road course behind the wheel of your own car! On Sunday April 26, 2009, Watkins Glen International will host its annual Opening day. You will pay a fee of $20 to complete 3 laps around the track (not at full speed). I had the opportunity to go last year with my father, and we had a blast. While at the event last year, the Corvette club had a chance to drive the circuit together. Why not have group of Fords run together? We will be under the group of POPSRacing. For more information please go to
www.popsracing.com
It takes roughly 1.5 hours to reach Watkins Glen International from my home in Fairport, NY I would like for the Rochester crew to meet up at Eastview Mall (Victor) at approximately 8:15 AM. It is a beautiful drive down there on Rt. 14 alongside Seneca Lake. The Syracuse and the Southern Tier group will be meeting the Rochester/Buffalo group at the Super Walmart, which is located at: 515 E 4th St, Watkins Glen, NY, at approximately 9:45 AM. It will be easier for us to meet here, because no one will be going out of his way. Cledusdtrucker will designate where the Central NY/Syracuse guys will be meeting up. After the whole group arrives, we will then head up the hill (4 miles to the track) where you will pay the $20 charge. You will be directed to the Paddock/Garage Area. As stated above, we will get three paced laps around the track. If we are lucky, we may be allowed more laps the chance to open up the cars a little bit!
After the on-track experience, Andy Fell (00SVTC) who is from POPSRacing will be hosting a BBQ at his cottage. His cottage is on Seneca Lake. It is roughly a 20-30 minute drive north of Watkins Glen (towards Rochester). Please bring a dish to pass to help keep the expenses low for everyone. If we have to many people, we will change the location of the BBQ to a local park,
**Times are subject to change. I am in contact with WGI and I am waiting to hear back to see what time is best for our group to arrive at the track.
Note: We are extending the invitation to anyone. It is a unique opportunity to drive the Watkins Glen race course, and your friends are welcome to join in on the fun. We will just put the non-Ford cars off in a corner---just kidding.
Please post your name and any quests that will be with you for the event. We need an
accurate head count for the BBQ as well as give a head count to Watkins Glen.
Thanks,
Rob Roessel &Andy Fell
