I had my 2006 in for the recall back in July. The dealer had parts to do the recall but don't know that it was vin # specific. The recall is model wide. Never received a second notice.

The new "inflator kit" is not a stock shelfed part. Vin# specific. It is assigned to your vehicle. If you had an airbag installed by a dealer without the second notice it was made with the original defect and must be removed. It was not a "FIX" on the car. Call Ford customer service directly to confirm this. This information was given to me by a Ford Mustang owner .He spoke with Ford about the recall recently. A second notice allocates a "NEW FIXED INFLATOR KIT".

Just got mine a couple days ago. Called dealer. They said the more humid states are getting priority. So they setup an appointment in order to be able to order the part. Now I wait for the part to actually show up.
So call your dealer "without delay"

I called this morning, they said "yep we have the parts, when can you bring it in?" so I scheduled it for Thursday at 5pm.

Interesting. My understanding was that they didn't get sent parts until Ford could assign your VIN to one.

I would think, if you give your VIN to the dealer when you call, or they look it up in their system (like they did mine) they will run it through the database and know fairly quickly whether you are eligible by priority and therefore have a new airbag ordered and allocated for your car. The way my notice reads, it appears as though the dealerships have the new airbags in their possession, and are replacing them on a first call first serve basis. The gentleman at the service desk that I spoke to, indicated that they have done several of these already over the past two weeks. Even if they don't have them in stock, it only takes two to three days for them to be shipped in. Which is why it is important to call ahead and schedule an appointment, and not just rolling in and expecting them to deficate out an airbag for your convenience.

This may be going on to speed up the refit of the cars . If your VIN was checked and it is the NEW "UPDATED" unit, then you are good to go. The air bag allotment is still VIN # allocated, even though. A bag is assigned to your vehicle. The second letter confirms this to schedule an appointment with your dealer. As was posted, second letters are now being received in large numbers. If you did not get yours yet, it was probably mailed to you already . Hence the dealer could assign the date for repair. This air bag mess keeps growing. More cars from another manufacturer were added these past two weeks. My new S550 has a Takata air bag in it as well. Ford is still using them as a vendor in the new gen 6. The FIX install does not take really long. The newer 13, 14's are scheduled later, except if you live in a hot climate state. 14's are being scheduled for the end of 2016 , for their FIX.

I think we are all saying the same thing; which is good.

For me, I did get the 2nd letter, I did call the dealer, they did confirm I can get the kit, and they created an appointment to get the part ordered.

The only thing they couldn't confirm was how long it actually takes for the part to get shipped because they were told Ford was giving priority to high humidity states. So this tells me the parts are not in stock, but yes it could come in a couple days. I am waiting to see what really happens.
They did tell me that they had done some on cars already, so the parts will come, just not clear how long it really takes.

This recall is for the inflator kit, not a complete air bag. The issue is with the inflator part, not the actual bag. We hear in the news about metal fragments, those are from the inflator coming apart into pieces and being thrown at the driver. In addition, it is the humidity that is cause them to go off prematurely as well. At least this is how I understand it for my model year.

States with high humidity like FLA do have the priority on replacement allocation. It is good to see that second letters have been sent & received by Mustang owners , with work time for the FIX then scheduled by the dealerships.

My driver side is now done. The dealership has alerted me that the passenger side will need to be done again. This has been verified on the Ford site, where you input your vin and they tell you what recalls are posted for your car.
