Question Need a tune for my 90?

The usual, heads, cam, intake and exhaust. The car has the usual idle surging and stalling. I have cleaned the salt and pepper connectors, swapped and adjusted two TPS's, changed IAC with 4 different ones, cleaned the throttle body, adjusted the timing to factory and to 14 degrees, changed the IAT sensor, changed the coolant temp sensor, changed the pickup in the distributor, swapped another good distributor, changed the EGR position sensor, checked for vacuum leaks, swapped ignition coils, swapped MAF sensors and adjusted FPR to 40 PSI and just about everything and the car still hunts but not as bad when I cleaned the salt and pepper connectors. It runs fine off idle but will surge randomly when at idle, cold or warmed up. Also, I'm running the Anderson cam B21 if that helps. So do I need a tune? This issue did not start until I changed from the factory cam. Other friends have aftermarket cams in their cars and have zero idle issues.

Thanks!

Tuning the throttle body idle and drive air functions should help if not solve you're issue. if you're up for it, get a moated qh or tweecer and tune it yourself, I can help. If not bring it somewhere to get a tune.
Good luck.

By the way, did you already follow the typical idle setting process? Including setting the throttle plate opening, tps voltage, setting the idle with the iac disconnected, and resetting the computer (not in that order)? On radical cams as well, you can set the idle rpm higher if needed on the tune.

Try setting your idle speed to 900 rpm then set your tps to .96 volts, normally works for us. Joe

Yes I did. I tried just about everything. I raised my idle up to 1000 which did help a little but still surged and stalled.

Did that too. I was told by AFM that you need to set the idle high on this cam which I did from the beginning and still had issues. I'm NOT going to run a stand alone system on this car when other people have wilder cams that I do and have no surging or idle issues. One thing I never did do was swap the computer with another one. Also I cleaned ALL of the grounds even the orange wire on the back of the engine.

Also, does drilling a small hole in the throttle body help? I hear that was an old trick to cure this problem.

Have you hooked a vacuum gauge up? Sounds like a vacuum leak. Also, did you do the h/c/i at the same time? If yes, did you make sure the o2 ground is hooked up? Its the orange wire in the injector harness.

No vacuum leaks. ALL grounds are clean and tight and I do mean ALL of them! LOL!

Just seems odd. My friend had a B21 and it worked quite well. He ran 10.81@126 with h/c/I and a little powerdyne. This was back when the only tuning was fuel pressure and timing lol.

Now I'm sure with some tuning it will run better but it seems like something else is up. What maf are you using? And what does your inlet consist of? Cold air or airbox?

Sorry for the late reply since I'm not on here much. The MAF is a GMS. I also had a C&L on it before and it did the same thing. Just an open K&N cone air filter. MAF clocked straight up too.

What's GMS stand for? Is that Granatelli? You wouldn't happen to have a friend's maf to try would you? Dumb question, but you are running a maf for the specified injectors right? I just did a new top end for my car with the Comp Cams xe 270hr-14, and had to raise the idle to about 850-900 but it idles pretty well. Maybe you might have to get a tune after all..
