Default Re: Mike's 302 to 351W Swap.

I just wanted to throw a shout out to coupe1993 on the Corral. He sent me a cluster for my car without accepting any cash in return even for shipping! Truly an honor to talk with a generous guy such as himself. Thank you sir.

Hopefully I get some time to work on the car this weekend and get it installed. Will make sure I upload some pics the beginning of next week!

Got my SS Braided mechanical fuel line yesterday. Will mock up the gauge so it can be seen under the cowl at WOT to determine if pressure is dropping. Also got my Sinister Mustang decals for the 1/4 windows.

This was the raped looking A9P that came out of my car. I went to the MSR website and it looks very outdated. Anyone know about these guys?

Well the weather is just always swinging both ways here. Yesterday we had what I would only call a torrential downpour of rain. Our driveway slopes down off the road right into our drive in basement. Id say the basement floor is a good 1-2 foot below the road elevation. You can guess the rest. I un-buried the drain tile there and drilled 3 holes in it during the last storm where water got into our basement. It works great until the ditch out front fills up (which it was yesterday) then the water has no where to go.

Plan to rip up the driveway some this year and install new crushed stone and dust. This is getting old fast. Its supposed to dump another .5-3'' of rain here today too. Oh and tomorrow night its supposed to snow! With accumulation!

Since I missed out on Watkins Glen opening weekend I had to hear the car run and do some type of tinkering.

Got my temporary fuel gauge installed as well as the new cluster form a forum member. Also found out that my car is leaking coolant badly from the bottom of the thermostat housing!

Old Unit

Empty space

New unit

Leak

Housing removed and cleaned up

Will be ordering more parts this week as im out of town all week. Hope to be back on the road next weekend.

Took the car out for a short ride the other day.

Coolant issue solved, however with my new cluster I now have a AMP light on all the time. A quick check at idle with the fans on shows 14.61 volts.

Also changed the oil for the first time after the rebuild. I think I picked up a noisy rocker sound. I have yet to re adjust after the rebuild. So I picked up a hearing aid!

Also got my coolant overflow to get rid of the Lipton bottle.

Still haven't been able to touch the car. Last weekend I came down with a stomach bug and that slowed me way down. Hope this weekend I can get the valves re-adjusted. I also ordered a new set of OEM sized pulleys to get rid of the under-drives.

Spent the weekend working on the car again. I received my LMR pulley set, so I installed Saturday evening.

New set:

Some sizing differences between the under-drives and OEM style:
[URL=http://s830.photobucket.com/user/DieselSlug/media/1989%20Mustang%20LX/IMG

I got the car running after swapping them and had to get an 87.5'' long belt as my 86.5'' long belt was too short. After getting up to temp I noticed I was getting a bad "whirring" sound, similar to an idler pulley going bad. Got my new stethoscope out and narrowed it down to my 3 year old water pump! It sounded horrible and was getting worse by the minute. I then noticed my thermostat gasket housing was dripping AGAIN! Drain coolant take 4...

Thermostat:

New water pump installed:

I hope to re-fill the cooling system tonight. I used this stuff and followed the directions to a T:

I also got a new set of headlight adjuster buckets from Blue Oval Industries!

Old broken one:

Finally I ended the day with re-checking the passenger side valves (I have a distinct tick). There was no up and down play felt in any of them. I also found online that bad water pumps can cause a ticking sound, so before I remove the intake and tackle the drivers side I want to see. The tick increases with RPM.

Leave it to photobucket to ruin a nice log..

They lost a user, now working with imgur. No real progress. Still need to adjust drivers side valves as I have 1 ticking loudly. A quick cold start the other day.
