SVT- the creators of many of Ford’s premier vehicles, ranging from the SVT Contour, to the GT supercar. Somewhere in there, you find the SVT Mustang. From 1993 to 2004, the SVT Mustang was the top dog of the mustangs, but those GM’s always seemed to be a step ahead. That is, until 2003, with the introduction of the Supercharged 2003 Cobra.
Rob’s Competition Orange 2004 Cobra is the last year of the SVT Cobra, and by far one of the best. Rob was always a fan of those GM products, until the boosted Cobras hit the market. While originally looking at a GT, one ride in a Cobra was all it took to convince Rob that the SVT was the one to get. Making the drive to Utica, New York, Rob purchased his 2004 with only 92 miles on the clock. As he says, “The drive home was one fun ride! And it’s been Ford ever since.”
Rob, bring the car-guy that he is, didn’t waste any time taking out all the stock parts. Before long, the Cobra was sporting an Eibach Pro-kit, Cog setup, and exhaust. After long, that power just wasn’t enough, and Rob began looking to nitrous and other ways to add power. But it didn’t take long before something a little bigger then that appeared in the garage. A procharger F1A, pushing 20+psi, replaced the Eaton and give Rob the power he’s looking for.
With the air being pushed, Rob addressed the Fuel issue. Tracking down a Glenn’s Performance fuel system with a set of 105lb injectors, this cobra is going to a corn-heavy diet of E-85. Putting all this power to the ground is a new FB Performance automatic transmission, with a manual valvebody. Blowing through the gears with a Hurst quarter-stick, the power ends up to the 4.10 geared IRS and MT ET streets.
With more than twice the factory power on tap, this SVT no longer has to worry about the pesky GM products. While far from the end of the line with modding, this Competition Orange will be blowing the Competition away.
