18" rims shouldnt grind on the brakes unless he upgraded them to a larger size, Is it a metal on metal grinding or a plastic sound ?

just said a grinding noise didnt say the sound type lol

If his wheel well guards are hitting it would make a grinding noise , if the brake shield is bent towards the rotor it would make a grinding noise too

Could be a brake shield... I have had that happen to me a few times when swapping tires, the brake shield will get bent and sound comes from the rotor scrapping against the shield.
