Default Explorer 5.0s vs Mustang 5.0s?

What is the difference between explorer 5.0s and Mustang 5.0s other than the heads/intakes. A friend of my shop teacher a bought an Explorer motor and ask him to get the heads off because they are the Ps. My crank is shot and although I have yet to see the crank of this one, the motor is supposidly low miles and there is nice cross hatching in the cylinders. I'm wondering if the rotating assembly will work in my 86 block?

Dude, just get the whole motor if it is in good running condition! The bottom end is the same as any other 93 up 5.0 HO, hyper pistons roller cam. The cam is smaller of course than a Mustang cam. The oil pan & timing cover are different. If you could get the whole motor you would save some $$ and if it looks good do that. Check the bearings if you want, I have only had one 302 ever destroy a crank and it was ran low on oil. I doubt the crank will be bad on this motor.

Well some one broke one of the threaded tabs off where the bellhousing bolts up to....

Pulled off two of the main caps today at school....the crank is mint!

Well there you go then, I am not sure if the block could be repaired or not I know it can be done because I've seen older FE Ford blocks fixed before. Not sure what would be better to do.

that tab can be fixed if you have the piece. govel welding on central ave in colonie fixed that same type of thing for a friend of mine

I also know George, however I do not have the piece. I have another garbage block if I could maybe cut it off and have him weld it on? One side of the Explorer block is pretty rusty, but I don't think it is be anything I can't just blast. I can get some pictures tomorrow....

btw, if you need to get a oil pan and stuff you might as well get this kit..saves $$ in long run..

That's a nice little package....but I already have a timing cover, pan, dip stick and tube, ect. Maybe I'll sell my stuff and put it towards buying that.
