Default Carbon Fiber Dash overlay kits

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the carbon fiber dash overlay kits on the market? Or any overlay kit for that matter. I have seen a kit on AM and several on Amazon at various prices. I like the look of CF and want to boost the appearance of my 8.5 year old interior. pros, cons, tricks, cheats. Tell me what you know please.

I had researched this about 2 years ago.
Stay away from the really cheap kits.
Buy the real carbon fiber CF vs the printed CF look.
Some kits I believe are ford licensed.
Clean area very well with alcohol.
Warm up the area and the overlay kit before applying.
Think twice before using the activator, because you will destroy your dash when you try to remove it.

Thanks for the info. American Muscle has a kit for just over a hundred bucks, but the specs don't say if it is real CF or not. There is also a kit on Amazon for 210 or so that claims to be real CF. I'm still researching at this point, as I don't have cash in hand, and there are other things I want first.

I was thinking about getting a CF interior kit as well, but was thinking about going with Steeda's kit. I just got some chrome interior pieces from Latemodelrestoration and thought it'd look good together. It's $300 but includes the center console also; seems like it's got everything except the arm rest. Steeda's generally of the highest quality also, I trust them.
Post pics of whatever you go with, I'd love to see it! Good luck!

Well, I bought my dash overlay from AM, but I went with a honeycomb look instead of carbon fiber. Sounds like I will have to wait until spring to apply it. My garage is not heated and i'd be sucking a lot of exhaust trying to stay warm in this weather.

yes, id wait till the warmer weather.
even then, id still warm up the pieces a little with a blowdryer, especially on any curved pieces.

I tried the overlay, it looked like crap. I went with 3m di-noc vinyl and wrapped my dash. Took a while, but looks much better than the press on shit.

Here are the pictures of the kit as it arrived from AM. Everything looks pretty cool up close, the texture adds an added dimension to the whole thing.

Ok, I get bored easily and am really stoked about putting the overlay on, so.....

Today I pulled the vent rings, gauge cluster and lower console and brought them in the house to warm up. After cleaning everything thoroughly with warm soapy water, I let everything dry. Per the directions that came with the overlay kit I then wiped all contact surfaces down again with a 4x4 surgical sponge and rubbing alcohol. (surprised to see what was still on some of the surfaces.)

I then gently pulled the vinyl from the backing and applied a very fine mist of very mildly soapy water (1 drop baby shampoo, 1 oz filtered water) I used an old lens cleaner bottle given to me by my eye doctor awhile back for the sprayer. I gently laid each piece in place and adjusted location while the backing was still damp. Once the piece was where I wanted it, I gently pushed out any bubbles with my finger at first then with a little more pressure using a micro fiber cloth. Once all pieces were seated in place I used my wife's hair dryer to heat set the pieces in place.

So far I am about half way through this project, but some parts will have to wait until spring, as I really do not want to tear the entire dash apart to do the Upper Center Console.

I will post more pictures later as I do more areas or if I get ambitious and pull the entire dash.

I thought I put up the link. Here are pictures in various states of installation. Up close and personal is better though.
