Default Re: 69 Coupe progress pics

Well now that I am now unemployed (was terminated Wednesday) I have alot of time to work on the 69 Coupe. I am now stripping the paint off the roof. Once I get it sanded down I will take a few pics to show. Then it is on to the hood & the r/s front fender.

I had a feeling something was happening. They were complaining about petty stuff (in my opinion) because my dept was almost always making sales plan.

Dept supervisor for the big orange box (Home Depot). I have alot of expierence in automotive (24 years) working in the service dept as service advisor, service manager, dispatcher, mechanic & started out as new car prep way back in 1978. Can't decide whether to stay in retail or go back to automotive.

Well today I finished stripping the rest of the paint off the rof & started sanding what was left the stripper didnt take off & found some putty on the l/s of the roof & on the front of the roof over the front windsheld. Sanded most of the l/s of the roof down to bare metal & found about 10-12 little dents on the roof about 10 inches in from the drip rail. They look like the typical dents that are on the roofs of most Coupes. Both the 68 & the other 69 Coupes I had in the past had some dents in the roof near the rear of the roof. Pics to follow once I get the roof completely sanded to bare metal.

Hey Mike,
After replying to your P/M I took another look at the pictures. What does the lower rear of the left quarter look like? I think I see a pair of quarter skins in your future? I say this because there appear to be several issues on the panel and I'm having my doubts about the outer wheel houses which can only be changed with the quarters removed. If you have a photo of the rear lower please post it or feel free to email it to me directly at poni1966@juno.com . Your pictures are getting me in the mood to replace some rusty metal,I think I'm going to head out to the garage and cut the floor out of a 66 coupe.

Malcolm,
The l/s lower quater is rotted in the same place as the r/s lower quater & about as bad.

I think you need to "Skin that pony" . I'd go with a pair of quarter skins if not full quarters. I see too many issues,by the time you were done patching those you'd have to spend a lot of time body working those areas to blend them in right. Aside from the rot,I also see a bunch of evidence of failed past repairs ,and a good amount of Bondo abuse. Plus you would have to plug weld in all of those holes, try to straighten them out, and then refill them with body filler. Plus when doing a quarter or skin you have clear access to the wheelhouses so you can easliy change those(you're probably looking at a pair of outers minimum).

Well finally after 2 months out of work I am back employed, starting tomorrow. Unfortunately with trying to find a job to pay the bills there has not been much work done on the 69 Coupe. Today I got the car up on jack stands in the rear & pulled the l/s rear tire & started scrapping the undercoating off the l/s rear wheel house (that job STINKS). I am expecting sheet metal to be delivered Thursday by UPS, it should be there when I get home from work. Time to get the 240v line run from the breaker box so I can start welding.
