Default 351 swap? Or Stroker kit?

Which would be the cheaper route, to buy a built 351? Or to buy a Stroker kit, with a Dart block and have it built? I'd want to be able to supercharge it and have it be able to withstand 600-650rwhp while still being reliable. I know the 302 block just isn't strong enough, and the 351 I'm not too sure, although according to CHP & Woody from Ford Strokers, it's capable of 700-800hp. So which route should I go? My plans are to do this sometime next summer or over the winter.

If your goals are 650 to the tire, you will be good with a 69-71 351 block. Hell, you'd probably be fine with a late model block too.

Boost is more friendly on blocks than nitrous for the fact you don't spin it as high when boosting, generally.

I say get a 351/408 deal from Woody and call it a day. His machine work is top notch

Ohh, and you don't need a dart block if your goal is 650rwhp. I would get a r block, much cheaper too... It's plenty capable of handling 650 to the tires..

Yea I've heard a lot of good about him from local Ford guys and on many different Mustang forums. They all say great things about the quality, etc. And most say he even calls from time to time after the build to make sure you've had no issues. I was actually thinking of the 69-74 351 anyways, just like if I go 302 Stroker I've heard a lot of good about the early 70's Mexican blocks.

What is the R block? And is it reliable? I've always been told to stick with the boss block, the dart, or to try and find an old Mexican block. So I'm not too sure what the R is. Was that the one used in the Cobra R for 95?

I'm on a big toss up now lol. I like the Stroker idea, but love this sound, it's music to my ears.

It's personal preference at this point....

An R block will hold what you want, and so will a 351 block.

Either way, I'm sure you'll be happy.

Yea it'll depend on which looks cheaper to have built lol. I know most 351 full engines can be had for under a grand in great shape. Don't know about the R block.
