Default 2nd Gear Grinding

hey guys, i just got a "new" used engine and tranny put in my 02 gt(has 3k miles on it) and i drove the car away from the shop today and noticed that when i went to shift into 2nd gear it started grinding. The mechanic said that he thinks the oils just need to work themselves around the tranny, as they were just replaced. Any idea what it could be from? Thanks, Max

Could be Bad Synchronizer, what trans is it? T-45 or T-3650, also what gears are grinding?

Funny you say that, I kinda thought it might be the syncro too..i would imagine its the T-3650, because its out of an 04 gt (I think all the late model 01-04 gts are the 3650). Only 2nd gear is grinding..no others

2nd Gear Syncro is bad and need to be replace before U do anymore damage to the tranny, and yes it's a T-3650, it's not an expensive repair, U just need to find the right Shop to get it fix, Good Luck

Syncro's, always a problem . Have it repaired soon. You don't need to be putting all that brass in the oil.

All of you sound like your on the right track as to what could be wrong. Although with manual transmission you never know the hole story till you open them up. It could be a 2nd gear syncro problem but that may have came from a bent shifter fork, worn shifter fork pads, 2nd gear slider keys and the list go's on all of these things i have seen first hand wile rebuilding manual transmissions.

+1 It's very unlikely the syncros are going just because of bad luck. Unless you are ripping gears all the time you shouldn't have these issues. Try to find the cause of the problem or it will keep happening. BTW: I've wasted every 5 speed I ever put in a Mustang. There's a reason for that though!! LOL
